Glasgow Meet-up 26th October 2010

It was an absolutely miserable evening, heavy rain and very windy indeed.  The organising committee were wondering if this was going to put people off coming..? But we got there anyway and proceeded to set the stage for our second Scottish meet-up.  David Munro, (Nightlife Entertainment) brought his rig along and set it up for all to talk about, and Tony Rimkus from (RS Sound & Light) brought a display of the kind of items he sells in his shop in St Enoch Square in Glasgow.

The DJs started coming through the door and proceeded to get networking, and everyone was given the chance to introduce themselves and give a small statement of what they do and how they work.

Hugh McGuiness (DJ Shuggy from Quality Discos) gave a lecture on “What is your worth?” prompting DJs to look at how much it cost them to actually do a disco, and ascertain how each DJ calculated their fee.  This prompted each DJ to state how much they charge for a disco, and prices stated ranged from £150 to £375.  This moved swiftly on to a second talk titled “The Benefits of Legal” Hugh used a PowerPoint presentation to present three Scenarios of a disco accounts.. One being cash in pocket, another being a full time DJ and declaring to the Inland Revenue and the third one being a DJ with a day job as well declaring the DJ work as a second job.  The figures proved that it was far better to declare the extra work to the Inland Revenue and work legitimately.

Tony was given the chance to say a few words about his Disco Supplies and Repairs Shop and he asked those present to support the local shops rather than slightly cheaper on-line stores.  He stated the benefits of using a local dealer and asked to be given the chance to price match any on-line deals that were on offer.

David demonstrated his “Macgregor” speakers and Demon players etc.. and gave a small talk about his rig and his disco services.

A raffle finished of the night with a healthy number of prizes on offer, it wasn’t large numbers on the night but those that came had a great time and left thinking about making changes to their business.

The next Scottish meeting will be held on the 2nd February 2011 at the Newarthill club 76 High Street, Newarthill Motherwell ML1 5JH.

Hope you can make it..
